To provide a forum for engineers and scientists working in the area of hydraulics and allied disciplines.
To disseminate information to engineers and scientists in the field of hydraulics through seminars, symposia, etc.
To encourage its members to keep up-to-date with developments in he country and abroad.
To publish a Journal of Hydraulic Engineering containing research / review papers, notes etc., twice a year and also a newsletter as may be considered necessary (presently ISH newsletter is being published online twice a year).
To liaise with various international societies working in the field of hydraulics such as International Association for Hydraulic Research (IAHR).
To accord recognition to outstanding workers in hydraulics, through suitable award.
